Recovery doesn’t just happen within the walls of skilled nursing facilities. At Tiburon Hills Care Center, the healing journey is supported through meaningful experiences that bring residents back into the flow of everyday life. Our team provides these experiences in the form of monthly outings to give residents the opportunity to get out, connect, and remember that their recovery doesn’t come at the cost of their lifestyle.
Most recently, we took our residents on a trip to The Cantina in Mill Valley, a delicious local restaurant, where they enjoyed a tasty meal and each other’s company out in the fresh air. It wasn’t just about having a nice night out and a good meal, however. At the core, these monthly outings are all about reconnecting with the simple pleasures that make life enjoyable.
Why Outings Matter in Post Acute Care
Post acute care focuses on recovery, rehabilitation, and helping individuals regain independence after a hospital stay. While therapy and clinical care in skilled nursing facilities are essential, emotional well-being and social engagement play an equally important role in the healing process.
Getting out for activities like our monthly group outings can have a powerful impact in the following ways:
1. Boosting Mental and Emotional Health
A change in scenery can lift spirits and reduce feelings of dismay. Dining out, laughing with peers, and experiencing something new can help residents feel more like themselves again, which is an important part of recovery.
2. Encouraging Social Connection
Recovery can sometimes feel lonely, especially after a major health event. Group outings create natural opportunities for residents to bond, build friendships, and strengthen their sense of community.
3. Supporting Physical Recovery
For residents who are able, outings provide a chance to practice mobility and independence in a real-world setting. Walking into a restaurant, sitting comfortably, and engaging in conversation are all small but meaningful steps forward.
4. Maintaining a Lifestyle
One of the goals of post acute care is to help residents transition back to their everyday lives. Experiences like eating at a favorite local restaurant help bridge that gap, reminding residents that they don’t have to put their preferred lifestyle on hold while they’re on the path to recovery.
A Person-First Approach to Healing
At Tiburon Hills Care Center, our approach to skilled nursing care goes beyond clinical treatment. The team understands that recovery is about the body, mind, and spirit. Monthly outings are just one way they bring this philosophy to life, ensuring residents have opportunities to enjoy themselves while continuing their healing journey.
Too often, skilled nursing facilities and senior living communities focus solely on recovery while failing to address the actual lifestyle desires of their patients. At Tiburon Hills, we have these monthly outings to help our patients focus on their “why” for recovery. We want our patients to continue to experience the lifestyle that they’re used to, because at the end of the day, the goal of recovery is to regain independence and find joy in life.
At Tiburon Hills Care Center, we will continue to provide great post acute care to our patients while providing monthly outings to make sure they’re having a good time in the process.
